What’s With All The Wheatgrass?

adminSuperfoods

Wheatgrass has traditionally been used by the ancient Egyptians to detox and maintain their health and vitality. Nicknamed the “liquid gold”, it has just in recent years gained in popularity around the world.

Wheatgrass is very concentrated and is therefore taken by the ounce, either as freshly pressed wheatgrass juice or as powder mixed into a liquid. Wheatgrass and barleygrass are specifically grown for their outstanding nutritional purposes. One serving of wheatgrass is roughly the equivalent of 1-1/2 pounds of leafy green vegetables. It is a very potent source of chlorophyll, of many vitamins such as vitamin A and C and minerals such as calcium and potassium. Wheatgrass is proven to be anti-inflammatory, alkalizing and cleansing for the body.

Preparing fresh wheatgrass juice at home requires a wheatgrass juicer and some time and patience. Dried powders of most superfoods, including for wheatgrass, are readily available. We prefer high quality organic certified wheatgrass from New Zealand for its high potency. Start with just a few ounces a day to get used to the flavor and the effects on the body. If the taste is too intense, try mixing it with fresh fruit and/or vegetables juices. Always drink on an empty stomach and wait at least 30 minutes before eating food.

Other green powders include barley grass, spirulina and chlorella.

Mix up and enjoy!
