Hemp is an incredibly versatile and easy to grow plant that has been cultivated around the world for thousands of years. As of late, hemp has been re-discovered by the food industry as a raw food and as an ingredient for all sorts of food preparations. Many different industries use hemp to produce sustainable and “green” products, such as building material, biodegradable plastics, hemp fuel, hemp canvas, hemp paper, textiles and clothing.
Hemp Seeds are known for their outstanding nutritional value. They can be consumed either raw (a bit crunchy) or shelled, or can be made into hemp protein powder, hemp milk, hemp oil or hemp flour.
Hemp seeds are rich in amino acids in a ratio that is ideal for human consumption. They are rich in fibers and contain important essential fatty acids (EFA’s) which are helping the body to maintain hormonal balance, healthy skin & hair and support general well-being. Hemp seeds also contain many essential minerals including Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium. The seeds are easily digestible and contain more than 20% high-quality protein! Hemp products are therefore a wonderful alternative for anyone who wants to avoid dairy or soy products.
There are few other plant based foods that compare to the high nutritional value of hemp seeds. Food producers are coming up with new products such as hemp protein bars, hemp energy bars, hemp milk, protein shakes, oil caps and much much more. Wait for it: the market will offer more and more healthy hemp product to enjoy. To keep it simple, get some shelled hemp seeds or protein powder and add them to your breakfast smoothie, or maybe some hemp oil to upgrade your salad dressing.
Enjoy!
