Colloidal Silver- The Ultimate First Aid

adminNatural Remedies

Silver has been used as a natural antiseptic for over 6000 years. Hippocrates used silver preparations for the treatment of different ailments and to promote healing, while Paracelsus used silver internally for infections as well as externally for the treatment of wounds.

Colloidal vs. Ionic Silver

Colloidal silver is a natural broad-spectrum antiseptic that fights infection and reduces inflammation. Classic colloidal silver comes as a 99.99% or higher suspension of pure elemental silver and super-pure grade water. Quality products should never contain silver salts or other compounds. It is a clear to a golden liquid, depending on the concentration of silver.

For best effectiveness, the particles of silver should be small, in fact, the smaller the better.  Ideal concentration and size is currently considered a 10ppm suspension with particles smaller than 1 nm (nanometer), for example 0.0008 microns. A small particle size means more surface area and therefore better absorbability and better safety. With particles this small, a 10ppm suspension is completely sufficient. Here, more is not necessarily better.

Ionic silver is dissolved in water while colloidal silver consists of suspended particles in water. It is now accepted that ionic silver is much more effective than colloidal silver. Popular products in liquid form consist of 96% ionic silver and 4% colloidal silver. The colloidal & ionic silver suspension never expires, due to legal requirements however, the bottle has to show a “use by” date. While colloidal silver does not degrade on its own, it can be affected when near to electrical or electronic equipment or being exposed to strong sunlight or heat. Therefore, store in a cool and dark location, but do not keep it in the fridge.

Colloidal silver is also available in cream or gels, which can replace the pharmaceutical antibiotic creams and ointments. Colloidal silver creams are not only safer and more natural, bacteria simply can’t become resistant to it.

“An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650.”  –The Science Digest, 1973

Colloidal silver is a great first aid for wounds, stomach upsets, respiratory issues and many infections. There is a variety of ways to use colloidal silver. The method of administration has an impact on its effectiveness, as the colloidal silver has to reach the desired area with minimal losses.

External Application

Colloidal silver is often used externally to treat skin problems and to reduce the spread of bacteria. Apply it on wounds and injured skin as required, ideally as a spray. Colloidal silver can also be applied to the required area with a dressing or on a bandage. Silver is widely used in emergency rooms and colloidal silver is accepted to have no risks associated with external use.

Topically, colloidal silver is the first choice for burns, scrapes, cuts, abrasions and insect bites that should not get infected. Obviously, for major wounds the patient should always be visiting the emergency ward. It can even be used on toothaches and mouth sores, as eye drops and as a gargle. To clear the air, it can be used as sterilizer and be sprayed on air conditioning filters and air ducts.

“I know of no microbe that is not killed by silver in laboratory experiments in six minutes.” –Dr. Henry Crooks, 1921

Internal Use

Taken internally, colloidal silver can be used to fight infection. To boost the immune system, to treat long-term illness and for maintenance, colloidal silver can be taken internally. For an acute illness, higher doses can also be taken several times a day. Leave it under the tongue for one minute before swallowing for better absorption.

It it noteworthy, that the United States, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries allow the ingestion of colloidal silver, while the EU has not authorized colloidal silver as a food supplement or for internal use. No side effects of colloidal silver have been reported by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

Silver may not be on the top of the list as a supplement, probably zinc and selenium are much more vital. To increase trace mineral intake of silver, Himalayan salt is the less expensive choice also providing 80+ trace elements.

Inhalation

Colloidal silver has not be studied as a product for inhalation and it is therefore not recommended. However, many people do inhale colloidal silver using an ultra-sonic nebulizer. This delivers colloidal silver directly into the upper respiratory tract and into the lungs.

Colloidal silver is not dangerous if taken in the recommended doses, for example a few sprays on an open wound or a few drops for an upset stomach. Following the FDA guidelines, at 10ppm you’d have to drink gallons for it to become dangerous. Colloidal silver is without a doubt among the safest natural healing agent ever created. It has a huge variety of applications, a super-long shelf life, promotes healing and will protect lives.
